The vampire Lestat attempts to destroy himself in the sunrise over the Gobi Desert, but finds himself badly burnt and half-mad. He recovers from his injuries at the home of his mortal friend David Talbot, and is confronted once again by a package from the mysterious, awkward stranger who has been stalking him around the globe, and whom Lestat now vows to destroy.
